Programs for Children
Symphony Studies
The Dakota String Quartet and the Dakota Wind Quintet serve as teaching ensembles in Sioux Falls area middle schools and high schools. These instructional hours are decided by the classroom teacher and executed in collaboration with SDSO musicians.
GOALS
- Expand the skill sets of student musicians
- Increase the level of interest in high school music programs
- Foster relationships between SDSO musicians and school music teachers
- Provide access to professional musicians’ expertise for student musicians
- Provide opportunities for students and their families to experience the SDSO
ACTIVITIES
SDSO Musicians will work directly with the school band and orchestra directors at each school to individually craft each visit to ensure maximum impact. Opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Master classes
- Technique workshops
- Preparation for college/all-state auditions
- Side-by-side rehearsals
- Small ensemble coaching
- SDSO Ensemble Performances
- Individual student mentoring
