VIOLIN II | LIBRARIAN

Amy Carlisle

Amy Carlisle serves as the SDSO Music Librarian and has been an active member of the second violin section since 2001. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Carlisle began playing violin at the age of seven. She graduated Cum Laude from Augustana University in 2004 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in both music and sociology. Prior to accepting the Music Librarian position in 2022, Carlisle gained administrative skills in positions with the Sioux Falls School District and a local law firm. The past two decades, she has assisted in a variety of concert operations roles with the SDSO and has served as an elected member of the SDSO Orchestra Committee. She has been involved in the Lakota Music Project since its inception and has participated in several professional recordings with the symphony. During her time with the SDSO, Carlisle has performed with artists including Midori, Sarah Chang, Emanuel Ax, Alessio Bax, Dawn Upshaw, Branford Marsalis, Chuck Mangione, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Amy Grant, and many others.

Outside of the SDSO, Carlisle enjoys spending time with her husband, Gideon (SDSO violist) and their two wonderful children, Bentley and Bailey, along with traveling, volunteering, working at a local balloon boutique, and running 10k races.

Amy is truly humbled to have been selected as Pat Masek’s successor as Music Librarian. Masek has been a great mentor and friend to Carlisle and will always be remembered for her many years of incredible service to the SDSO.
