HARP, ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL

Anna Vorhes

Anna Vorhes serves as associate principal harpist and program annotator for the SD Symphony Orchestra.  She actively performs and teaches in South Dakota and Iowa, venturing into other states at various times.  She is active with the American Harp Society and the Harp in Worship Society as well as being a member of the World Harp Congress.  Vorhes is adjunct faculty at Augustana University where she teaches harp lessons and the SD University Center where she teaches Music Appreciation.  She is also on the faculties of Northwestern College (Iowa), Dordt College, and the University of Sioux Falls when there are harp students in those schools.  She recently retired after more than two decades as the principal harpist for the Sioux City Symphony.  She has also served as a touring artist for the South Dakota and North Dakota Arts Councils in the past.  In her free time Vorhes enjoys portraying Renaissance Lady Ann Cook Bacon, mother of Francis Bacon, for the Siouxland Renaissance Association in educational events.  She is the current volunteer Executive Chair for that organization.
