John Alpers

John Alpers has been the bass trombonist with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra since 1989.  Alpers is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music degree in Low Brass Performance from the University of South Dakota.  He has studied trombone with Mr. William Shephard and Mr. Jon Hansen from UNI and Dr. Lawrence Mitchell from USD.  Alpers taught 5-12 band at Randolph, NE from 1984 to 1988, and 8-12 band at Vermillion, SD from 1990 to 2018.  Alpers now is a private lesson teacher and a substitute teacher for the Sioux Falls School District. M. Alpers is a member of South Dakota Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Alpers lives in Sioux Falls with his wife Denise and sons Thomas and Matthew.
