Rubén Tovar Carrasco

Rubén Tovar began his musical studies in Caracas (Venezuela) at the age of 10 years old, in “El Sistema”. In 2002 he started his orchestral experience playing in the “Caracas Children’s Symphony Orchestra” and later, in 2007 was selected to be founding member of the “Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela” assuming the position of Principal Trombone.

Since 2010, Tovar started touring with the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela as a Principal Trombonist, playing in many prestigious halls, theaters and festivals around the world including BeethovenFest in Bonn, Wiener Konzerthaus, Berliner Philharmonie, Het Concertgebouw, Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid, Royal Festival Hall, Salzburger Festspiele, Teatro alla Scala, Tokio Metropolitan Theater, and Shanghai Symphony Hall. He has also performed under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Simon Rattle, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Rafael Payare, Christian Vasquez, Sung Kwak, and Diego Matheuz.

Tovar has had the opportunity to receive classes from many outstanding Venezuelan teachers such as Edgar Escalona, Luis Collins, Duvardo Echarry, Obeed Rodriguez, Miguel Sanchez and Pedro Carrero. In 2014 he was selected as a student at the creation of the “National Academy of Trombone” in Venezuela. Additionally, he had received Masterclasses from International Trombone players like Bruno Flahou, Ben Van Dijk, Christian Lindberg, Jacques Mauger, indalecio Bonet, Norman Bolter, Scott Hartman, Andrea Bandini and Olaf Ott.

In 2018 he received a full merit scholarship at the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) and started his B.A in Music Performance with Jay Friedman and Reed Capshaw as his primary teachers. From 2020 to 2022 he was selected as Associate Member of Civic Orchestra of Chicago. in May of 2022, Rubén graduated and received his B.A degree from CCPA at Roosevelt University in Chicago.
