Shirley Kunkel

Shirley Yeh Kunkel was born in Lafayette, Indiana and attended Purdue University with a biology degree followed by medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. She did a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Mayo Clinic and practiced in Rochester till 1990. After moving to Sioux Falls, she joined Ob/Gyn, Ltd and practiced until 1998 when she retired to spend more time with her two sons. Kunkel started piano at the age of 8 and violin when she was 11.  She joined the SDSO in 1999, playing in the 1st violin section. In her spare time, she enjoys playing bridge, cooking and baking, exercising, roller blading and golfing, volunteer work and traveling with her husband, Steve.
